From championship glory to a mugshot in less than 24 hours. That’s the wild turn Arike Ogunbowale’s week took.
The Dallas Wings guard and four-time WNBA All-Star was arrested on March 5 after allegedly punching a man outside Miami’s E11EVEN Nightclub. This came just one day after she dropped 19 points to help lead the Mist to their first Unrivaled league championship.
According to ESPN, security camera footage appeared to back up the man’s claim that he was knocked to the ground. Not a great look for one of the WNBA’s brightest stars and a two-time All-Star Game MVP.
The details of what led to the altercation are still coming out, but the timing couldn’t be worse. Arike was riding the highest of highs after that championship performance, and now she’s dealing with a battery charge that could have serious implications for her career.
We’re not here to convict anyone before the facts are in. But the situation is a reminder that what happens off the court matters just as much as what happens on it.
