Dominic Antoine Jr., a standout senior from East Oakland, has made waves in the education world by achieving a feat that many can only dream of: he was accepted into all 31 colleges he applied to. Known affectionately as “Pooda,” this ambitious high schooler not only navigated the demanding college application process with ease, but he also maintained an impressive 4.3 GPA throughout his final year at Fremont High School. His drive and dedication are shining examples of what can be achieved with hard work and passion.
When National College Decision Day arrived, the excitement reached a fever pitch as Pooda made his choice known — he’ll be heading to Louisiana State University (LSU) next fall. The announcement was met with cheers from his peers and family, who have been by his side throughout this journey. LSU not only boasts a vibrant campus culture but also offers a strong academic program, making it an excellent fit for someone as driven as Pooda.
The journey to this moment hasn’t been without its challenges. As a teenager growing up in East Oakland, Dominic faced the typical pressures of adolescence compounded by the broader societal issues that impact many in his community. But rather than letting these obstacles deter him, he used them as motivation to excel. While many teens might feel overwhelmed by the pressure to succeed, Pooda harnessed it, channeling his energy into academics, sports, and community activities.
Dominic’s story serves as a powerful reminder of the potential within our youth. His remarkable achievement has sparked conversations around the importance of education and access to opportunities for students from all backgrounds. As he embarks on this new chapter at LSU, there’s no doubt that Pooda will continue to inspire those around him, proving that dreams can be realized with determination and resilience. East Oakland has a lot to be proud of, and this remarkable young man is just getting started.
