Today is the day. The Air Jordan 5 Retro "Halloween" officially drops this morning, October 17, and if you have been anywhere near sneaker Twitter this week you already know the energy around this pair is different. Retail sits at $215, the style code is HQ7978-001, and it lands on Nike.com, Foot Locker, JD Sports, Finish Line and DSG at the usual morning window. This is not another colorway that gets cooked up for a calendar date. Jordan Brand built a shoe that actually earns the name on the box.
Start with the base. Black nubuck upper, black mesh netting on the side panels, and a silhouette that has been one of the most active models on the entire Jordan calendar all year. The Air Jordan 5 has had a monster 2026, from the "White Metallic" return to the "Black Carolina" drop, and the Halloween joint might be the most creative chapter of the whole run. The design team leaned into what the 5 already is. The shark teeth on the midsole have been screaming for a spooky treatment since Tinker Hatfield sketched them out in 1990, and this colorway finally gives the people what the model was practically designed for.
The seasonal details are where it gets good. Picante Red speckles across the shark teeth give the midsole a haunted look without drowning the shoe in orange, which is exactly the mistake most holiday releases make. Then the lights go down and the pair comes alive. The Jumpman on the tongue, the Nike Air logo on the heel, the "23" on the lateral side and the entire translucent outsole all hit glow in the dark green. That is four separate placements lighting up at once, which makes this one of the most complete after dark retros Jordan Brand has shipped in years. Walk into a party with these on and every phone flashlight is coming out.
Collectors have another reason to move on these. The Nike Air heel branding is OG spec, which matters more than casual fans might understand. When Jordan Brand brings that original heel logo back on a 5 retro, the community treats it as a signal that the release was handled with care instead of being pumped out for a quick seasonal bag. It adds real weight to a shoe that could have been dismissed as a costume moment. Between the heel branding, the Roman numeral tongue stitching and the speckled midsole, there is enough detail here to reward a close look well past the first wear.
The wearability is the sleeper part of this release. Plenty of Halloween kicks look great in promo photos and then live in the closet from November through September. This one is mostly black with red and green accents, which means it slides right into a fall rotation with cargo pants, denim or an all black fit. A glow in the dark outsole does not stop a shoe from being a daily driver. If anything, this pair works as a regular black 5 until the night hits, and then it becomes a whole conversation piece. That dual personality is why the resale market is already paying attention. The pair has been trading in the $150 to $460 range on StockX over the last stretch, and a clean drop day buy at retail is the smartest money you can spend all month.
Family sizing is covered too. Full size runs hit for $215 in men's, $155 in big kids, $95 in preschool and $80 for the toddlers, which tells you Jordan Brand expects this one to move across the board. Holiday themed retros with actual design effort behind them tend to age the best, because the nostalgia carries them long after the season passes. The themed 5s and pumpkin colorways from past Octobers still pull strong resale numbers years later. The ones built with real design intent become grails. The ones that just swapped colors get forgotten.
