The new Scary Movie trailer dropped and it is exactly the kind of chaotic, fearless parody that made the original franchise legendary — and this time Sinners and Get Out both get the full treatment. For fans who have been waiting for a real return to form, the trailer delivers.
The franchise lost its identity when Shawn and Marlon stepped away. The later installments tried to keep the concept alive but couldn’t replicate the specific comedic voice that the Wayans brought — a voice rooted in Black cultural awareness, sharp timing, and the willingness to go places that made studio executives nervous. Having them back means the franchise gets to reconnect with what made it work in the first place.
Parodying Sinners is a particularly interesting choice because that film carries deep cultural weight in the Black community. But satire from inside the culture operates differently than mockery from outside it. When Black comedic royalty clowns a Black cinematic triumph, it’s celebration wearing a costume.
